  • 2010 - A big year for Tech

2010 will be an important year in the information technology business, with important consequences that will impact business customers for years to come. In coming post well be reviewing some of the major tech trends, and how they will play out in 2010 and beyond.

As far as 2010, there are two major currents that will help ensure far reaching changes. The first major technology trend for 2010 is economic disruption. There are certain industries such as real estate which have been under water for many years, and will likely see some modest recovery in 2010. These industries will be looking at business technology, and making discrete IT investments where there are opportunities to improve business. Conversely, many of the business sectors that only began to feel the recession in the last year or so may be in for another tough year, and will likely continue to reduce all expenses, including technology. This will make for a very complex environment a given organizations needs are highly proprietary and situation. The net result will likely be a rebound in technology investment in the context of even more aggressive financial discipline.

The second technology trend for 2010 will be cloud. When Office 2010 ships next year and you can finally use MS Word in the cloud, well have finally reached prime time for cloud platforms. Once the first round of MS Office early adopters begins to live in the cloud, well see this platform REALLY take off. Anyone who is not aggressively adding cloud expertise to their knowledge base is very likely to be left behind as this technological shift hits high gear in 2010.
